Programme Targets 




 
  • Reinvigorate the construction sector and the renewal of the existing households;
  • Monitorization of the energetic behaviour of 20 buildings and 400 social housings;
  • Achieve a reduction of 20% of the energy consumption in each house that will be subjected to a monitoring process;
  • Improve social benefits that will be reflected in the quality of life for the buildings residents, resultant from the energetic balance in expenditure of households, and the reduction of energy demand;
  • Increase economic benefits derived from the value of property, the stimulation of business activity and employment.
Summary



EDEA Renov is a project of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing, Territorial Planning and Tourism of the Regional Government of Extremadura, funded by the LIFE + 09 Programme of the European Commission, with the purpose to develop studies and applications of energy improvement technologies in existing buildings, through renovations, innovation and ICTs components.

Renovation

Renovation is a key component of the EDEA Renov project for the achievement of long-term and effective solutions in energy efficiency. This component have two pillars for its implementation: a controlled environmental testing with the use of experimental demonstrators of the previous EDEA project (Experimental house and pattern house EDEA – www.proyectoedea.com), and a real life context studies to be developed in social housing in Extremadura, more specifically in “Santa Engracia” neighborhoods in Badajoz and in “San Lázaro” neighborhoods in Merida.

ICTs

Under the ICT’s approach, EDEA Renov integrates the experience obtained in the use of specific applications and tools for the building analysis and global energy behaviour performed in the previous EDEA project, and is complemented by a series of ICT specific applications for the testing, measuring and evaluation of materials for energy efficiency in renovation processes.

Innovation

In this component the project will contribute to the study of new materials and constructive solutions and it will optimize the energy consumption process associated to the building life cycle. For this purpose, EDEA Renov will proceed a more advanced and detailed analysis of the use of renewable energies and intelligent home technologies (domotics), already started by the previous EDEA project, and now focused on the following aspects:

  • Passive energy systems
  • Production and sustainable consumption models
  • Sustainable use of natural resources and materials
  • Contingency plans
  • Recovery and recycling of waste
  • Study of real life cases, such as the pilot neighborhoods in Badajoz and Merida and the different types of existing houses within. 

Expected Outputs and Results

The specific activities and strategies included in each component will have a significant contribution in the reinvigoration of the construction sector, through the project expected outputs and results:

  • The creation of an energy and climate map of all existing buildings in Extremadura, established on geographic information system (GIS) software for the evaluation of the urban environment and the quality level of the construction;
  • The selection of strategies of energy renovation will be implemented in the existing demonstrator houses (experimental and pattern demonstrators) of the EDEA project, in a controlled but real environment;
  • Creation of software for the evaluation and calculation or measurement the amount of energy needed to fulfill the inhabitants thermal comfort criteria;
  • Appointment of a technical office of energy management in social districts involved in the project, to help the citizens involved in the project to be sensitized for sustainability and energy renovation processes.
