Spain launches project for rehabilitation of public buildings

The Spanish Agrarian Transformation Company (TRAGSA) and the National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER) signed last June a specific collaboration agreement for the development of an R&D+i project focused on the promotion of Energy Efficiency in Buildings - EDISOS 1316.

The main objective of this project is to define and develop a methodology for sustainable rehabilitation for government buildings, set for achieving the EU targets on energy efficiency sustainability. It aims to boost sustainable rehabilitation, energy efficiency and integration of renewable energies in the buildings, creating tools that facilitate the improvement of existing public buildings, knowledge of their behavior and efficient energy management. This will deepen rehabilitation solutions and the implementation of renewable energy, energy tested through simulations that reveal the behavior of the implemented technology solutions, using the European method of optimal cost.

The work developed methodology will be implemented in two real pilots, specifically held in two public buildings. The results obtained by dynamic simulations that will allow taking decisions on the improvement in the design, also taking into account the costs involved will be compared. The behavior of the pilots will be validated and will be adjusted during the project, through follow-up and monitoring strategies.

As a final result, it will be published a methodological guide for energy rehabilitation of public administration buildings to enable the housing stock responsible to adopt decisions focused on efficiency, sustainability and rationalization of buildings.
